Taraji P. Henson (born Washington, D.C., in New York City, on Sept. 11, 1970) is an American actress and singer. She landed her first acting gig on Smart Guy. In 2001, she got her big break in the film Baby Boy. Taraji made her singing debut in Hustle & Flow; she sang for the Three 6 Mafia track “It’s Hard Out Here for a Pimp” which won an Academy Award for Best Original Song. In 2008 she earned an Oscar nomination for her role in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Taraji was voted one of “The 10 Sexiest Women of 2001” by the readers of Black Men Magazine.

Taraji got pregnant with her son in her Junior year of college, but was determined to finish school while she raised him on her own. Her son Marcel was born in May 1994. The father of her only son died unexpectedly in 1997.
