Bio:
Benicio del Toro (born Benicio Monserrate Rafael Del Toro Sanchez on February 19, 1967 in San Juan, Puerto Rico) is a Puerto Rican actor. Benicio grew up in Puerto Rico until he was 12. He moved with his father and brother to Mercersburg, Pennsylvania. After graduating from high school, Benicio enrolled in the University of California at San Diego. He discovered his love of acting and dropped out to study with acting teachers Stella Adler and Arthur Mendoza. He started to land small television parts in the late 1980s, including appearances on Miami Vice and Drug Wars. He had a cameo in Madonna’s 1987 music video for “La Isla Bonita.” His big debut was Big Top Pee-Wee and the James Bond movie, License to Kill. His breakout came in 1995 and The Usual Suspects. He followed it with appearances in The Fan and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, but in 2000, Benicio was cast in Steven Soderbergh’s Traffic. His performance won him the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor, as well as the Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild award for best Actor. Since then, Benicio acted in The Hunted, 21 Grams, and genre films like The Wolf Man and the Marvel movies Thor: The Dark World and Guardians of the Galaxy.
