Amy Brenneman

Bio:
Amy Brenneman (born Amy Frederica Brenneman on June 22, 1964 in New London, Connecticut) is an American actress, writer and producer. Amy grew up in Glastonbury, Connecticut, where she acted with the school drama department and a local theater group. Amy co-founded the Cornerstone Theatre Company while attending Harvard University. After she graduated in 1987, Amy traveled with the group for several years. Amy’s made her television debut in 1992, acting in the shor-lived CBS series, Middle Ages. Her big break came the next year when she joined NYPD Blue. She was nominated for an Emmy Awards for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama series. After leaving NYPD, Amy’s film career took off. She appeared in Bye Bye Love, Casper, Fear, and the acclaimed crime drama, Heat. Amy returned to television in 1998 for a season of Frasier, and in 1999, she became a creator and executive producer of her own series, Judging Amy. The show ran for six seasons on CBS. Afterward, Amy appeared on Grey’s Anatomy as Violet Turner before she was cast in the spin-off, Private Practice. Private Practice ran from 2007 to 2013. In 2014, Amy was cast as Laurie Garvey in the post-Rapture drama, The Leftovers.

Personal Life:
Amy’s mother, Frederica Joanne, is a judge of the Connecticut State Superior Court and an inspiration to her Judging Amy character. In 1995, Amy married director Brad Silberling. They have two children together: Charlotte  and Bodhi. Amy is very supportive of women’s rights and is pro-choice. She is also a supporter of more restrictive gun laws.
