A host of stars turned out for this year’s ESPY Awards in Los Angeles. The sports related awards were hosted by actor Samuel L. Jackson. Man of the evening was 14-time Olympic gold medallist Michael Phelps who was named Best Male Athlete. His win brought Tiger Woods’ five-year reign holding the title to an end. The swimmer also took home the Best Record-Breaking Performance, Best Championship Performance and Best Male Olympian awards. If that wasn’t enough, he also shared the best moment award as part of the victorious 400-meter freestyle swimming relay at the Beijing Games. Phelps won a record eight gold medals at the games, breaking Mark Spitz’s 36-year-old record of seven golds in a single games.
