After they attended the U.S. Open together that September, it was confirmed that the two were an item. Tom and Zawe kept their romance low key for a while, but eventually started attending public events together.

In 2022, it was rumored that Tom and Zawe were engaged after she was photographed wearing a diamond ring on her left hand. After months of speculation, Tom confirmed the engagement news during a June 2022 interview.
