Skai Jackson for Hollywood Life — Skai Jackson visited HollywoodLife.com for an exclusive photoshoot and interview while promoting her new book Reach For The Skai. In it, she celebrates her own uniqueness while offering words of wisdom to her massive young audience. Skai touches on everything from female empowerment, fashion to finding your voice, all while sharing her personal story of growing up in the industry. Skai rose to fame in the role of Zuri Ross in the Disney Channel series Jessie from 2011 to 2015, and also starred in Bunk’d. In addition to those roles, Skai made her voice acting debut with the Disney television show Ultimate Spider-Man, and continued with the Marvel Rising series. With a social media following of over 4 million fans, Skai has used her platform to speak out against bullying and advocate for causes she cares about, like Red Nose Day and No Kid Hungry.

It was kind of like an overnight thing that happened and it was over a year process in total. It was a long, but very fun journey.”

On Women Supporting Each Other — “We need to support each other, especially in this generation and in this time, I think it’s really important. So, to see women arguing with each other and disrespecting each other on social media is just such a bad thing. I always just tell people, before you do something, think twice about it, think three times about it before you post it or say it to the person. Because most of the time when you say things you’re just not in the moment and then you’re going to regret it later.”

On Her Next Acting Gig — “I’m definitely open to anything, but I really want to do more dramatic work. I feel like I’ve been doing comedy for so long, which it’s fun, but I want to show people another side. So, hopefully I do get a show that is in the dramatic realm, or maybe a horror film.”

On Losing Her Friend, Cameron Boyce — “He was so special to me, so keeping his legacy alive is really important. . Cameron also was going to put out a clothing line, and they have some pieces that will be launched, and I think something is already launched like a sweatshirt, which I think is really cool, which you can buy. It was all his thoughts, everything that he wanted to do. So I think it’s really important that, not just me but our fellow cast members, and even the fans, just keep his memory alive.”
