Nyla Rose is making history. In 2019, she became the first openly transgender wrestler to sign with a major American promotion when she joined All Elite Wrestling. A year later, she made history again: by defeating Riho for the AEW Women’s Championship, she became the first openly trans wrestler to hold a major U.S. title. Since then, Nyla continues to bust down barriers and blaze a trail for other LGBTQ+ wrestlers.
For Canadian fans, they’ve known about Nyla for a while. She appeared in the OutTV comedy series ‘The Switch,’ which saw Nyla portray Su, a IT manager who is “smart, nerdy, reckless.” The former two adjectives could be said about Nyla, as she is an avid gamer, wrestling nerd, and cosplayer. “Reckless” isn’t the right word to describe her inside the ring. More like “devastating,” “vicious,” and “terrifying.” After all, she didn’t earn the “Nyla The Destroyer” nickname for nothing.
