Maddox was born on August 5, 2001 in his native country Cambodia, where Angelina adopted him as a single parent in 2002. At the time, he was just seven-months-old and living in an orphanage in the village of Battambamg. The actress had previously visited Cambodia while shooting her iconic action film ‘Lara Croft: Tomb Raider’ when she was still married to ex-husband Billy Bob Thornton (they split in 2003). 

Brad Pitt became Maddox’s adoptive father — thereby changing his last name to Jolie-Pitt — after the actor and Angelina struck up a romantic relationship in 2006 after meeting on ‘Mr & Mrs. Smith.’ 

Maddox has proudly been by his mother’s side over the years, often supporting her at red carpets and premieres. Years after his adoption, the actress recalled visiting the orphanage and not feeling a “connection” to the other children — until she met Maddox. “I didn’t feel a connection with any of them,” she explained to People back in 2017. “They then said, ‘There’s one more baby’…“I cried and cried,” she said after seeing her son. 

The 20-year-old is all grown up and now pursuing his degree at Yonsei University in South Korea. Click through to see photos of him over the years!
