Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks Display 2020 — Photos From New York City — This is America — and we’re not celebrating our birthday without a party! For decades, Macy’s has delighted the nation and the world with an extravagant fireworks display celebrating the 4th of July in New York City and as the saying goes, the show must go on, even during a pandemic.

Macy’s was forced to re-imagine its iconic Fourth of July fireworks to avoid hundreds or even thousands of people from congregating around the city in crowds to watch the show, as social distancing is key to continue to keep the Coronavirus infection numbers down. With that in mind, during the entire week leading up to the big holiday, Macys kicked off a series of 5-minute shows in each of the five boroughs, all culminating in a grand finale on the night of America’s birthday.

Normally, the only time fireworks go off in Times Square is on New Years Eve, with thousands of people crammed into every crevice of the iconic street. But because of the pandemic, Times Square was practically empty when Macy’s shot off fireworks for their July 4th celebration.
