Jodie Comer may have to murder people week after week on ‘Killing Eve,’ but to paraphrase her assassin alter ego, ” you got some really nice clothes out of it, so…”

Villanelle, a role that has won Jodie a slew of awards including an Emmy, is a fierce, once-in-a-lifetime role for so many reasons, but perhaps one of the biggest reasons the murderous femme fatale is so beloved is her wardrobe. From stunning, vintage couture gowns, to full-blown clown costumes, Villanelle always arrives in style in a killer look.

Over the last three seasons, Villanelle has been dressed in the best: McQueen, Lavin, and Goddard, just to name a few designers, and this is all thanks to the brilliant minds behind the costumes of the show. Three incredible women – Phoebe de Gaye (Season 1), Charlotte Mitchell (Season 2), and Sam Perry (Season 3) — picked out every dramatic look, which you can relive right here.

So choose a favorite, if you dare, from these iconic looks we pray are still hiding away somewhere in Villanelle’s closet.

“Killing Eve”, Episode 1 is where we first meet Villanelle as she walks the streets of London, shopping and spilling ice cream all over unsuspecting children. Even in her down moments, Villanelle has impeccable style. Who else do you know who could pull off a mauve trench coat?

Jodie explained the importance behind Villanelle’s wardrobe to Marie Claire in 2020, saying the assassin has “an innate sense of style, definitely.” She went on, “I think she has very little rules. She wears what she wants to wear.”

She said her obsession with designer brands was an intentional decision by creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge. “It was a huge part, that kind of materialistic side of her. For the clothes, it was an expression of self. She found so much joy in that. [It’s] her outlet. That’s what she likes to treat herself with and express herself with. So it was definitely always an element to her.”

By the first Halloween after Killing Eve debuted, everyone who was obessed with the show found a way to recreate this Molly Goddard dress that has now become synonymous with the creepy, cool character.

The designer talked about the impact of the dress with Stylist.co.uk in 2019, saying, “It’s amazing, kind of remarkable.” She went on, “You forget the power of TV. And, for me, it suddenly made sense when people said, ‘Oh you have a signature’, I could see it. People who wouldn’t know what item was from what collection could recognize it as my work.”

Villanelle sports tons of sharp blazers over the course of the season, but none stand out in the minds of fans quiet like the Dries Van Noten suit Jodie Comer wore in the third episode of season one. You know, the one she wore when she killed Bill. (No pun intended.) Jodie herself has said this was her favorite outfit from the first season

Pretty sure Jodie Comer had to wear that same shirt for nearly 3 episodes total, as it’s the look she rocks at the end of Season 1 during her final showdown with Eve, and the first thing she wears in Season 2 after Eve, well, you know…

This is another one of the outfits that will stay with ‘Killing Eve’ fans long after the show’s done. Villanelle wore a vintage black high-neck, sheer Alexander McQueen gown for her reunion with Eve in season 2. (Not pictured: the dramatic veil that really completes the whole look!)

Jodie mused about Villanelle’s passion for fashion with Marie Claire in 2020, suspecting the criminal is more into status symbols than anything. “I don’t know if she even thought about fashion, but, then, when she got introduced into this lifestyle, it was something that filled a void. And that’s where that interest [in fashion] and need for it grew,” she said.

When the second season kicked off, there wasn’t much glamour on the menu for Jodie Comer as Villanelle was spotted ripping the coats off homeless people in an attempt to stay alive. Still, only Villanella could make dirty look this good!

When it all comes to a head for Villanelle and Eve at the end of season two, Jodi Comer spends most of her time wearing this red Lanvin co-ord top and trouser set, clinched at the waist with a black Gucci belt. Not as ‘cute’ as Eve’s maid outfit, but…

For season three, Villanelle is back on top, and her outfits reflected her rise back to power. So, of course, she wore a power tux, complete with sheer shirt and lace black bra, to her wedding. Yes, her wedding. But more on that later…

The show’s Emmy-nominated costume designer Sam Perry talked about her choice to outfit her in a Comme des Garçons tailcoat and Simone Rocha blouse with E! News. Sam reminded everyone how classic wedding white probably wasn’t Villanelle’s “vibe”. “She just does whatever she feels like in that moment, on that day, regardless of whether it’s right or not. She just doesn’t want to answer to anybody.”

With Barcelona as the backdrop for season 3, Villanelle introduces a lot of bright colors into her wardrobe, like this gorgeous printed La DoubleJ tunic dress and Golden Goose boots. “It was meant to be her being effortless and fun, but also just enjoying where she is,” costume designer Sam Perry shared.

He said season 3 was a nice opportunity to see the character’s style shift with her circumstances. “She’s a young woman and it’s a wonderful place to have a flat and to be working,” she reasoned. “And I just thought it would be a nice opportunity for her to express that side of her, rather than just expensive designer clothes, which obviously she really, really enjoys but if she hasn’t got any money she can still go to a flea market and pick up a nice dress.”

Let us not forget that most of Villanelle’s wardrobe is made up of disguises! In season 3, an iconic kill required she downgrade her outfit to a deliver uniform. But even that she pulls off oh so well.

Back in Barcelona, Villanelle struts like she means in a gorgeous blue floral dress by British brand, the Vampire’s Wife. Blue is definitely her color. Jodie herself even told E! News that she “loved” the piece.

Send In The Clowns

Jodie Comer usually can make you smile, despite being a murderous femme fatale, on ‘Killing Eve’, but the kids at the birthday party Villanelle infiltrated in season 3 weren’t laughing when she came around.

After rocking the full clown look, Jodie said she cultivated a “newfound respect” for jokers. She told TVLine, “I actually have a newfound respect for clowns after wearing that costume.”

“We shot that in Barcelona, and it was so hot. I don’t even know what material that costume was made out of, but it was not breathable, and those shoes are so hard to walk in. When I left the set that day, I was like, ‘You know what? Hats off to them, that they manage to stay smiling and entertain kids, when actually it’s just pure misery underneath.”

Girl on Fire

It took 3 seasons, and finding Villanelle’s family, for Jodie Comer to do an iconic ‘hero walk away from an explosion’ take. Then again, she wasn’t much of a hero and she caused the explosion… but she looked fierce as hell in those satin, teal pants by Givenchy. (The stunning Paco Rabanne blouse was also an eye-catcher.)

Costume designer Sam Perry explained how she chose the outfit for the important episode, saying, “We didn’t want her to look like she’s just dressing up in a kind of big frock for meeting her family.”

“It’s almost like, for her there’s a bit of modesty, like fitting-in to where she is. Again, it’s always in her own quirky way. It’s always off-kilter and frightens everybody else,” Perry said. “She doesn’t look like she belongs there but she’s trying her best to fit in.”

As season 3 is coming to a close and Villanelle’s rising in the ranks of The Twelve, she needs to start dressing more like leader. Enter this Dice Kayek suit and Simone Rocha shoes.

Costume designer Sam Perry said of this look, “I think it’s quite a mature Villanelle at that point. You don’t really know what’s going on after everything that’s happened with her family and her mother. So much has happened and her mind isn’t the same anymore, you’re trying to project that business and togetherness through her clothes.”

Even a train station is a runway when Villanelle is on the scene. Making her foes green with envy, everyone’s favorite assassin pulls off this incredible Charlotte Knowles coat and Gucci trousers combo.

The costume designer said she meant for Jodie to look “unsettled” in the flashy look. “You know, you have gone out and bought something ridiculously expensive, but she’s wearing it in a really sort of couldn’t give a damn way. But you know, it gives the appearance that she’s ready to start again and further her career some more,” Perry shared.

In the season 3 finale, Villanelle is suited up, once again, for a rendevous with Eve. It’s a bold, 70s-inspired Halpern suit for her London reunion — but will it all go to plan?
