Eddie Van Halen was best known as the founder, songwriter, and main guitarist for the rock band Van Halen. He former the band, which also includes his brother Alex Van Halen, in 1972, and it went on to become one of the most successful rock bands of all time. Their song ‘Jump’ off their album ‘1984’ became a number one hit on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 charts in 1983 and is perhaps their most famous song since the band’s inception.
In addition to Van Halen, Eddie has played his guitar for other artists’ music projects, including Michael Jackson’s 1982 song ‘Beat It’. He played piano as a kid and was voted one of ‘Guitar World’ magazine’s ‘100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time’ in 2012.
Eddie was a father to his son Wolfgang Van Halen, who was born in 1991. Eddie sadly passed away at the age of 65 in 2020. He was battling throat cancer for years.
