David Bowie’s Family: Photos of the Rock Icon’s Son Duncan & Daughter Alexandria

Today is the eighth anniversary of David Bowie’s death. Celebrate his life and legacy with photos of the rocker’s kids Duncan and Lexi Jones here.

David Bowie was one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century. Born in London on January 8, 1947 as David Robert Jones, the multi-talented icon took over the 70s glam rock era as his alter ego Ziggy Stardust with his single “Starman.”

From there, it was hit after hit as he constantly transformed his styles and genres to keep his fan base growing. The “Fame” songwriter even ventured into acting, with roles in ‘The Man Who Fell To Earth’, ‘The Hunger,’ and cult favorite ‘Labyrinth’. In January 2016, Bowie died at the age of 69 following a battle with liver cancer.

While his contribution to the arts will live on, Bowie also leaves a legacy of two children. He has one son, Duncan Jones, whom he shared with his first wife Mary “Angie” Angela Barnett. The couple was married in 1970 and divorced 10 years later. After marrying supermodel Iman in 1992, the happy pair welcomed daughter Alexandria “Lexi” Zahra Jones.

Duncan Jones accepts the award for Album Of The Year on behalf of his father David Bowie at the Brit Awards 2017. Duncan looked dapper as he took to the stage in London.

Duncan had a touching message on stage, telling the audience, “I lost my dad last year, but I also became a dad, and I was spending a lot of time after getting over the shock of trying to work out what would I want my son to know about his granddad.”

He continued, “And I think, it would be the same thing that most of my dad’s fans have taken over the last 50 years: he’s always been there supporting people who think they’re a little bit weird, or a little bit strange, a little bit different. And he’s always been there for them.” Duncan added, “This award is for all the kooks and all the people who make the kooks.”

Following her father’s path, Lexi, born in 2000, is an artist who lives and works in LA. She has an Instagram where she showcases her work, and according to The Sun she sells custom art and clothing online.

Iman talked about her family’s artistic streak with Harper’s Bazaar in Jan. 2021, remarking, “David was a painter; my daughter is a painter. I never painted in my life, so I’ve taken it up. I learnt that I don’t have to be good at something to start doing it. Just get out of your own way, go for it.”

Duncan talked about his father’s influence on his filmmaking career with the Associated Press in 2018, noting, “My dad was obviously prolific in music, but he also acted and I think I had the most fun when we were on film sets… I think I got the (directing) bug back then.”

“Because the musical gene did not express itself in the way one might have hoped, my main hobby with my dad was shooting little one-stop animations and I just always carried that interest in film,” he explained.

Iman picks up her daughter, Lexi Jones, from school in the West Village. The supermodel mom kept it casual with her wardrobe but still looked chic.

After David’s passing in Jan. 2016, Iman said she would never marry again. She recalled her daughter asking about her plans, telling People, in Nov. 2021, “I said ‘No, I will not.’ I still feel married. Someone a few years ago referred to David as my late husband and I said ‘No, he’s not my late husband. He’s my husband.'” 

She added, “I definitely feel his presence, especially when I look out over the glorious sunsets at our home because David loves sunsets. So in that way he is ever-present. Through my memory, my love lives.”

Duncan sent out a heartfelt message to mark 5-years since his father’s death in Jan. 2021. He took to social media to say, “Today marks 5 years since dad died. We are all a little sad, coping individually in our own ways. But it’s both remarkable & delightful that dad is still so clearly loved by so many. Yes, he’s missed… but with so much of ‘him’ in the work he made, he’s clearly still here.”

Iman and her daughter Alexandria Zahra Jones step out in New York in 2011. The supermodel wrapped her arm around her beautiful daughter as they crossed the street.

Iman explained why she doesn’t want Lexi to model in a 2018 interview with W Magazine. She said, “She says I am overprotective, but I told her, this can all wait, it isn’t going anywhere.

She explained, “Have a life that is private while you can, because one day soon it is going to be public, so enjoy this.”

She was also wary of people only using Lexi for her name. Recalling a time she shared a photo with her girl on social media, Iman said, “Every agency, every designer, called me to say: ‘If she wants to, we’d love for her to model for us.’ I said: ‘No, she doesn’t.’ I know why they wanted her to model. It’s because she is David Bowie’s daughter.”

Duncan reflected on his father’s influence in May 2016, just months after his dad’s death, with The Independent, saying, “He was a big gravitational pull on my life as far as who I saw myself as, how I separated myself from the world and how I saw myself.” He also said, “Weird things make me miss him – I’m sure I always will – but it’s still early days, it’s tricky.”
