The character she plays, Shirley Maisel, is in a ‘traditional’ marriage with her husband Moishe and is not thrilled that her son, Joel, and daughter-in-law Midge have separated. after her son cheated. She explains that her character, Shirley, doesn’t blame her son for his affiar. She sees it as ‘a mistake’ because he didn’t keep his mistress ‘strictly for the side’. She’d like Midge to take Joel back.
