Boss of the house! Not only is Bruce Springsteen a rock and roll icon, but he’s also a proud father of 3 with wife Patti Scialfa. Patti and Bruce were longtime friends, first playing together as bandmate before going on to get romantic in the late 80s, and marry in 1991. They welcomed their eldest Evan James Springsteen on July 25, 1990. Daughter Jessica Rae Springsteen came next on Dec. 30, 1991, and Samuel Ryan Springsteen was last, born on Jan. 5, 1994. Before Patti, Bruce was married to actress Julianne Phillips, but the pair never had kids.

Each of Bruce’s 3 kids is now an accomplished young adult and none of them are strangers to attending upscale events with mom and dad. Here, Bruce takes daughter Jessica Springsteen and wife Patti Scialfa to a special screening of ‘Western Stars’ in New York on Oct. 16, 2019.

Bruce Springsteen takes stylish daughter Jessica Springsteen and wife Patti Scialfa to a special screening of “Western Stars” in New York on Oct. 16, 2019. The concert film was a performance of his album of the same name.

While promoting the movie, he opened up about how his own childhood colored his views on parenting. Bruce told CBS, “There were a lot of mistakes I didn’t want to make. And I think the way you look at it is, like, I don’t want my kids to have to dig themselves out of my hole. They’re gonna have their own hole they got to dig themselves out of… So as a parent, you do your best to not lay too much of your own bull**** on them.”

Patti joked about getting flirty on stage in front of the kids while talking to Rolling Stone in June 2004. “They say, ‘Please don’t do that in front of us.’ I said, ‘Hey, you’re going to be happy one day when you look back and know your parents really loved each other.'”

Bruce opened up about how he likes to connect with his kids in his 2016 memoir Born To Run. “Feeding your children is a great act of intimacy,” he writes. “And I received my rewards: the sounds of forks clattering on breakfast plates, toast popping out of the toaster, and the silent approval of morning ritual. If I hadn’t gotten up, I would’ve missed it.”

Bruce talked about how he and Patti balance being spouses and bandmates with Variety in Oct. 2017. “We’ve kind of developed natural boundaries,” he said.

“Some places we have a more professional approach, like if I walk into the studio while she’s working, I have certain boundaries where if she requests my opinion or asks for my help, I give it on a very professional level. When she comes onstage with the E Street Band she’s an E Street band member, and when we walk offstage we’re husband and wife.”
