It may be paradise for budding romances on ‘Bachelor in Paradise’, but that’s not always true once cameras stop rolling.  See which couples have weathered the real world together and made their relationships work.

‘Bachelor in Paradise’ is the perfect place for former ‘Bachelor’ and ‘Bachelorette’ contestants to fall in love. The show first premiered in 2014, and several couples have found love on the beach in Mexico in the years since.

Ashley Iaconetti and Jared Haibon first met in Paradise on season 2, but their love story was a bit untraditional. Jared dumped Ashley, leaving her broken-hearted. When they both returned for season 3, she hoped to rekindle the relationship, but once again, Jared friend-zoned her. Outside of ‘Paradise’, they remained close friends, and things finally turned romantic in 2018. That summer, Jared proposed to Ashley on the beach in Mexico where they first got together.

In August 2019, Jared and Ashley tied the knot. In the aftermath of the wedding, they were very open about their struggles with conceiving, but they announced that Ashley was pregnant with their first child in 2021. Their son, Dawson, was born in 2022.

Kevin Wendt and Astrid Loch met during season 5 of ‘Bachelor in Paradise’ in 2018. While they split up on the show, they rekindled their romance after the cameras stopped rolling. ‘It was the craziest scenario that you can meet someone in, and then the breakup was the best thing that ever happened to us because it just let us kind of end the TV show chapter there in Mexico and come out of it and just work on it on our own and kind of figure out what we wanted to do,’ Astrid gushed to E! News in Aug. 2019.

A few weeks later, they were engaged. ‘I could have sworn the world stood still in this moment. A moment I’ll never forget. Just you + me,’ Astrid began in her heartfelt engagement announcement on Instagram. ‘@kevin.c.wendt you’ve taught me to love, learn and grow and I can’t believe you’ve chosen me to spend this crazy life with. Wonder if I’ll ever stop smiling? Probably not. In this together, forever.’

The couple planned to tie the knot in 2020, but their nuptials were postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. After rescheduling their wedding for Nov. 2021, life once again had other plans for them: They had a baby! Baby August William Wendt was born on Nov. 20, 2021 after the pair had struggled with fertility for two years. ‘We suffered together month after month, but we also suffered silently,’ Astrid penned in a letter for PEOPLE in May. ‘I cried in the shower and he took a little longer than usual walking home from the gym because we both wanted to be strong for the other person.’ Astrid and Kevin decided to meet with a fertility specialist after 12 months of trying and eventually got pregnant via IVF.

Pieper James and Brendan Morais are still together more than a year after their relationship began. Brendan, who appeared on season 16 of ‘The Bachelorette’, and Pieper, who fought for Matt James‘ heart in season 25 of ‘The Bachelor’, sparked a romance in the spring of 2021. They then both appeared on season 7 of ‘Bachelor in Paradise’, where they were thrust into the limelight after being accused of coming onto the show while already dating, or at least with the intention of growing their pre-formed relationship stronger. 

The pair ultimately left the island together in Sept. 2021 and entered a full-on relationship, but it wasn’t as easy as ‘Paradise’ at first. Amid rumors that the pair had split, Pieper shared her side of the story and confirmed she and Brendan are still an item. ‘We’re still together. The reason we didn’t choose to go public like everybody else in the show was just because, obviously, our experience was a little bit different. We tainted our own experience in that way, so we are kind of working on ourselves and each other and we’re focusing on being a couple before taking that public because obviously, this hasn’t been an easy thing to go through,’ she explained on an Oct. 2021 episode of the ‘Bachelor Happy Hour’ podcast.

As of Sept. 2022, the pair were living together in Massachusetts and figuring out their next move. ‘I feel like we’ve always done things as we want,’ Pieper told Us Weekly. ‘We didn’t get engaged on the show, which was probably a blessing because we [don’t] have to rush to marriage or anything like that. It’s kind of, ‘Let’s take things at our own speed.”

Kenny Braasch and Mari Pepin met on season 7 of ‘Bachelor in Paradise.’ Although they briefly broke up at the beginning of the season, they wound up getting back together and falling in love. Kenny proposed during the finale, and they’ve been together ever since.

Joe Amabile first fell in love in ‘Paradise’ during season 5, where he met Kendall Long. They dated for more than a year after the show ended, but wound up splitting in Jan. 2020. Joe returned for season 7 of ‘Bachelor in Paradise,’ where he met Serena Pitt. Although their relationship was slightly derailed by Kendall showing up on the beach, they persevered and got engaged during the 2021 finale. 

On Oct. 27, 2022, the lovebirds surprised fans when they took to Instagram to announce they tied the knot! In the joint video they posted, Serena and her man said their ‘I do’s’ at a courthouse and then shared a passionate kiss when the deed was done. In the caption, they clarified that they will still have a formal wedding in Sept. 2023. ‘… but who doesn’t want to get married twice!’ they exclaimed. Congrats to the happy couple!

Thomas Jacobs and Becca Kufrin met on ‘BIP’ season 7 in 2021 and hit it off right away. However, they went their separate ways during the season finale. By that fall, though, they were together and better than ever.

‘Becca reached out,’ Thomas told HollywoodLife EXCLUSIVELY in Nov. 2021 about their reconciliation. ‘It was something I was hoping [for]. I left in a vulnerable place, leaving my faith somewhat in her hands because I knew what we had. I was rewarded for that and it was something that, right when we re-connected, we didn’t skip a beat. The person who she saw on the beach was the person who she saw in real life. We both got the clarity and answers that we needed and realized that we wanted to be with each other.’

In May 2022, the happy couple announced their engagement, with Becca being the one who got down on one knee to pop the question. ‘In the ultimate plot twist…HE SAID YES!” Becca captioned her engagement reveal post. ‘We’ve been keeping this secret just between us and close family & friends for a while but we’re so excited to shout it from the rooftops! I finally found my chauffeur for life and the one who makes my heart smile every single day. I can’t wait to do it all with you Tommy, thanks for making me the happiest gal alive. I love you to the moon & back.’

In 2023, Tommy and Becca confirmed they were expecting their first child together, as well.

Noah Erb and Abigail Heringer met on season 7 of ‘Bachelor in Paradise.’ They were together for the entire season with very minimal drama, but Noah started vocalizing his doubts before the final rose ceremony. When he told Abigail he was falling in love and she didn’t reciprocate, he realized she wasn’t’ ‘his person,’ and they broke up. However, once filming ended, the two reconnected and got back together.

Caelynn Miller-Keyes fell hard for Dean Unglert during season 5 of ‘Bachelor in Paradise’ in 2018. He left the show and broke up with her, but wound up returning before filming ended and they left as a couple. Although their relationship is somewhat untraditional, they’ve been together ever since their time in Paradise.

After three years of traveling the world together and spoiling their adorable dog, the pair confirmed their plans to spend the rest of their lives together by getting engaged! On the Oct. 23, 2022 episode of his ‘Help! I Suck At Dating’ podcast, Dean revealed that he bought Caelynn a stunning 4.5 carat emerald-cut engagement ring, but lost it. ‘It’s not quite as nice as the first one was,’ Dean admitted about the second ring he had to buy. He then shared his lesson learned: to not ‘put your engagement rings in the junk drawer.’

The engagement went down on the beach on Oct. 24, and Dean had beautiful images of the special moment captured, to no surprise. ‘under promise. over deliver,’ he wrote alongside the photos, which can be seen here. His caption likely poked at the fact that he never seemed to excited about the prospect of walking down the aisle. ‘I’ve made it pretty clear to her. I was like, ‘If you really want to get married, you should be the one proposing to me’ so I think she’s got something in the works for that which I think is pretty cool,’ he noted on his podcast in Nov. 2021. 

He also seemed fairly disgusted at the idea of marriage in a June 2022 episode of this podcast. ‘Caelynn makes significantly more money than I do and here I am having to spend all this money on something I don’t even want. Like, I want her to get what she wants, but she’s the one who wants to get married,’ he said. 

Hopefully, that was all a cover so she could be extra surprised when the day came. By the look of the photo, she certainly was!
