Riley Hawk and Frances Bean Cobain have much more in common than just being the children of 90s icons: they’re now husband and wife, according to a new report from TMZ. The pair reportedly got married in a ceremony at the beginning of October, after securing a marriage license in September.
Both Riley and Frances Bean have famous parents. Riley’s dad is world world-famous skateboarder, Tony Hawk, and Frances‘ parents are Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love of the bands Nirvana and Hole, respectively. Now that Riley and Frances are married, find out more about him!
Riley Is a Pro Skater Like His Dad
When your dad is Tony Hawk, it’s not surprising that you’d probably step on a board at some point in your life. Riley has been skating since he was a kid, and he clearly has some of the same abilities as his dad. He was awarded the “Amateur of the Year” award by Skateboarder magazine in 2013, and he turned pro on his 21st birthday. While his dad is mostly known for pioneering the “Street” style of skateboarding, Riley has more of a “Vert” style, but watching a few clips of him on YouTube, it’s clear that he does very well in both styles.
He Was Featured in the ‘Tony Hawk Pro Skater’ Games
Besides skating in competitions and getting featured in publications, Riley was also featured in the more recent editions of his dad’s video game series. He’s a playable character in Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater HD, THPS 5, and the remastered THPS 1 + 2.
He Sings in the Band Warish
Skateboarding isn’t the only trait that Tony passed down to his son! The two also share an affinity for punk rock. For anyone who played the THPS games, the soundtrack is just as iconic as the skateboarding, loaded with classic tunes from bands like Bad Religion, Goldfinger, and Lagwagon. Riley has started his own band called Warish, which plays hardcore punk, with the skater on vocals. The band has dropped 2 albums: 2019’s Down in Flames and 2021’s Next To Pay.
Riley isn’t the only member of the Hawk family who has started making his own music. His younger brother, Spencer, performs hyperpop under the name Gupi.
Michael Stipe Performed His Wedding to Frances
Frances obviously has many musical connections through her parents, and now, she has a few more through her marriage to Riley. When Riley and Frances got married, Frances’ godfather Michael Stipe, from the iconic band R.E.M. officiated the ceremony for them in Los Angeles. Besides the rock legend being her godfather, Frances also has a superstar godmother: Drew Barrymore.
He’s Been Dating Frances Bean Since 2021
The marriage comes about two years after Riley and Frances’ relationship first went public. It was revealed that the two of them were dating back in January 2021.
