Grey’s Anatomy returns for season 19 on October 6, and the long-running medical drama will be welcoming back familiar faces and introducing new ones. Niko Terho is one of the 5 new stars of Grey’s Anatomy. He’s playing one of the newest surgical interns.
You’re probably wondering, who is Niko Terho? Turns out, he has a connection with one of his co-stars. From where Niko’s from to his past acting credits, here’s what you need to know about the 26-year-old.
1. Niko plays Dr. Lucas Adams in Grey’s Anatomy.
Niko’s character is “the charming black sheep of his family. Likable to a fault, he has a great mind but doesn’t have the grades to match. He’s determined to prove himself as a surgeon, just like many in his family that have come before him, but he will have to stop relying on his people skills and put in the work,” Deadline reported. He’s joined by Alexis Floyd, Adelaide Kane, Midori Francis, and Harry Shum Jr. In the season 19 premiere, we learn that Lucas is Derek and Amelia’s nephew.
2. Niko has a Grey’s Anatomy connection already.
Niko previously worked with Jake Borelli, who plays Dr. Levi Schmitt. They co-starred in the 2020 Freeform romantic-comedy The Thing About Harry. Jake joined the cast of Grey’s Anatomy in season 14. Jake told HollywoodLife EXCLUSIVELY in August 2022 that the new interns, Niko included, bring an “all-new energy” to the show.
3. Niko is originally from Barbados.
Niko was raised in Barbados. His mother is Barbadian, and his father is Finnish. In January 2022, Niko posted an Instagram photo of himself in Chalky Mount, Barbados. “Good to be back home,” Niko captioned the picture.
4. Niko’s first acting credit was in 2019.
Niko first appeared in the 2019 short film Howard. He was in an episode of Sweetbitter that same year before starring in The Thing About Harry, which was his initial breakout role. He’s going to be a household now that he’s on Grey’s Anatomy!
5. Niko used to be a soccer player.
Niko was recruited to play professional soccer when he was 15, according to Loop Entertainment. However, he told Pop Culturalist that he’s “always wanted to be an actor; I can’t remember a time when I didn’t… I’ve always known, but I haven’t been able to pursue it until recently because of soccer.” He moved to New York at 18 to pursue acting full time.
