Tyka Nelson (born Tyka Evene Nelson in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1960) is an American singer. She is the daughter of American jazz musician John L. Nelson, who died in 2001, and Mattie Shaw, who died in 2002. She is also the younger sister of music legend Prince, who died in 2016. Tyka grew up with a love for music and, according to a 2008 interview with City Pages, she began writing songs when she was only 10 years old. She has released six albums and reached the 33rd place on the charts in July 1988 with Marc Anthony’s Tune. She also plays four instruments: piano, guitar, bass, and clarinet.

Personal Life:
Tyka Nelson is married to Maurice Phillips. The couple have six kids: daughters Danielle Phillips, Crystal Phillips, Chelsea Phillips, and sons Rachard Phillips, Sir Montece Laeil and President LenNard Nelson. Tyka has also battled an addiction to crack cocaine and prostituted herself to support her children. “I was a single mother and my boys were babies. I sold my body for food, money, and Pampers,” she told The National Enquirer in 2003.
