Tim Raines

Bio:
Tim Raines  (September 16, 1959 in Sanford, FL) is known for being a Major League Baseball star. He was a standout at Seminole High School in FL, stealing home plate 10 times. He was selected by the Montreal Expos in the 5th round of the 1977 MLB draft. He played six games for the team at second base in 1979 but in 1980 was moved to the outfield, where he displayed an amazing amount of hustle. He set a then MLB record as a rookie with 71 stolen bases. In 1983 he stole a career high 90 bases. He was eventually traded to the Chicago White Sox in 1990 and went on to play for five other teams until he retired in 2002. He is a three-time World Series champ, seven time All-Star, and the National League’s batting champ in 1986. He ended his career with 808 steals, the fourth highest in MLB history. On Jan. 18 in his tenth and final time on the MLB Hall of Fame ballot, he was inducted into Cooperstown with 86 percent of the Baseball Writers of America’s vote.

Personal Life:
Tim was born to parents Ned and Florence Raines. His son Tim Raines Jr. followed in his dad’s footsteps, into MLB. In 2001, Montreal traded him to the Baltimore Orioles where he played left field while his son played centerfield, becoming only the second father-son duo to play together in Major League Baseball behind Ken Griffey Sr. and Jr.
