Bio:
Taye Diggs (born Scott Leo Diggs on January 2, 1971 in Newark, New Jersey) is an American actor. Taye grew up in Rochester, New York, attending Allendale Columbia School before transferring to School of The Arts. He graduated from Syracuse University with a BFA in musical theater. Taye made his Broadway debut as part of the ensemble cast of the 1994 Tony Award winning revival of Carousel. In 1996, Taye gained critical and commercial success as Benny in the Pulitzer and Tony Award winning musical, Rent. Taye’s breakthrough television role came in 1997, playing Adrian Hill on the soap opera, Guiding Light. His film debut, 1998’s How Stella Got Her Groove Back, brought him much acclaim and exposure. Taye starred in a handful of other films, including Go, The Wood, and the remake of The House on Haunted Hill. Taye reprised his role of Benny for the 2005 film version of Rent. On television, Taye appeared on several episodes of the final season of Will & Grace. He was also co-starred in the Grey’s Anatomy spin-off, Private Practice. In May 2015, Taye announced his return to Broadway, as he will play the title role of Hedwig and the Angry Inch.

Personal Life:
Taye’s name comes from his friends, who used to call him “Scottaye.” Taye worked with his future wife, Idina Menzel, on the Broadway production of Rent. They were married in January 2003 and welcomed their son, Walker Nathaniel, in 2009. Taye and Idina separated in 2013 and finalized their divorce in 2014.
