Sydney McLaughlin

Bio:
Sydney McLaughlin (born August 7, 1999 in New Brunswick, New Jersey) is an American track and field Olympian who competes in the 400m hurdles. She ranked 5th in the semifinals at the 2016 Rio Olympic games. Sydney is a rising senior in high school, where she’s an unmatched track and field star. She’s the youngest American to make the Olympic track and field team since 1975; she celebrated her 17th birthday at the Rio games. She set a world junior record at the Olympic trials, running a 54.14 400m hurdle. Sydney won the prestigious Gatorade Girls National High School Track and Field Athlete of the Year Award in 2016.

Personal Life:
Sydney’s passionate about volunteer work, including with the Red Cross and Hurricane Sandy recovery efforts. She’s also a soup kitchen staffer. Her family members are track and field stars, too. Brother Troy McLaughlin is a runner at Michigan State. Her father, Willie McLaughlin, was a semi-finalist in the 400 meters at the 1984 Olympic Trials.
