Rupert Murdoch (born Keith Rupert Murdoch on March 11, 1931, in Melbourne, Australia) is an Australian American business mogul. The son of a newspaper magnate, Rupert’s media interests started when he was young, working as the co-editor of his grammar school’s official journal. He studied at Oxford in England, and when he returned home, he took over the family business, News Limited. He began his success then, first turning the Adelaide News into a hit paper, before buying the Sunday Times. He purchased The Daily Mirror in 1960, reinventing it as the modern tabloid, focusing on sports and scandal coverage, with eye-catching headlines. In 1968, Rupert entered the British newspaper market by purchasing News of the World. The next year, he bought The Sun. After the purchase, The Sun attracted 10 million daily readers. In 1973, Rupert bought his first American paper, the San Antonio Express-News, before acquiring the New York Post in 1976. Rupert created News Corp in 1979, a holding company. Rupert became a naturalized citizen in 1985 in order to legally purchase television stations. He bought the majority interest in 20th Century Fox in 1984 and launched the Fox Broadcasting Company, in 1986. In 2011, Rupert was involved in the News Of The World phone hacking scandal. In June 2015, Rupert was reportedly preparing to step down as CEO from 21st Century Fox.

Rupert married his first wife, Patricia Booker, in 1956. They had a daughter, Prudence, in 1958, before divorcing in 1967. That year, Rupert married Anna Maria Torv. They had three children – Elisabeth, Lachlan and James – before divorcing in 1999. 17 days after finalizing his divorce to Anna Maria, Rupert married Wendi Deng. Together, they have two children – daughters Grace and Chloe. In 2013, Rupert filed for divorce with Wendi. In Jan. 2016, Rupert and Jerry Hall, the ex-girlfriend of Mick Jagger, were engaged after four months of dating. On March 4, 2016, Jerry and Rupert wed in a quiet ceremony in London.
