Mindy McCready

Malinda Gayle “Mindy” McCready (November 30, 1975 – February 17, 2013) was an American country music singer. Mindy grew up in Florida, but moved to Nashville when she turned 18-years-old, where she was signed  by BNA Records. Starting her career in 1995, she had recorded 5 studio albums. Her debut album, 1996’s Ten Thousand Angels, was certified 2× Multi-Platinum by the RIAA, while 1997’s If I Don’t Stay the Night was certified Gold. 1999’s I’m Not So Tough was her final album for BNA. Her self-titled fourth album followed in 2002 on Capitol Records.

While Mindy has not charted a single since 2002, she received significant media coverage for her personal life.

Known For:

At the time of her death, Mindy was best known for her troubled personal life — she tried committing suicide twice before her death, appeared on Celebrity Rehab With Dr. Drew and suffered the loss of her lover, the father of her baby, one month before her own suicide. She was a well known country music star in the late 90s.

Personal Life:

In 1997, Mindy was engaged to actor Dean Cain. They split up a year later. She also dated former NHL hockey player Drake Berehowsky. In 2005, Mindy’s ex-boyfriend, Billy McKnight, was arrested and charged with attempted murder after beating and choking her. Four months later, Mindy was pregnant with Billy’s child. She gave birth to Zander Ryan McCready on March 25, 2006.  Mindy appeared on the third season of Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew, which aired in January and February 2010, depicting her struggle with substance addiction. On Jan. 13, 2013, the father of Mindy’s youngest son, David Wilson, died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Mindy committed suicide, one month later, on February 17, 2013.
