Mel Gibson (born Mel Colm-Cille Gerard Gibson in Peekskill, New York on January 3, 1956) is an American actor and filmmaker. Twelve years after his birth the actor moved to Sydney, Australia with his parents. The actor made his film debut in 1977, the same year he graduated from the National Institute of Dramatic Arts in Sydney. After appearing in Summer City, Mel went on to accept the lead role in the 1979 film Mad Max. Mel made his first appearance in an American film in Mark Rydell‘s 1984 drama, The River. After a two year break, Mel returned to Hollywood to star in Lethal Weapon alongside Danny Glover. After much success as an actor, Mel decided to try his hand at producing and directing films. He started a production company called Icon Productions in 1989 with Bruce Davey as his partner. The actor went on to make his directorial debut in 1993 with the film, The Man Without A Face. Two years after, Mel directed Braveheart and won an Academy Award for Best Director. In 2004, Mel co-wrote, co-produced, and directed The Passion of the Christ. The movie went on to become the highest grossing rated R film of all time with roughly $370.7 million in U.S. box office sales.

Personal Life:
Mel Gibson was married to his ex-wife Robyn Denise Moore for 26 years. The two tied the knot on June 7, 1980, the two got married and together they had seven children. One daughter, Hannah (1980), and six sons, Edward (1982), Christian (1982), William (1985), Louis (1988), Milo (1990), and Thomas (1999). Mel and Robyn separated 0n July 29, 2006. Three years after their separation, Robyn filed for divorce on April 13, 2009 and cited irreconcilable differences. The divorce filing happened a month after Mel was spotted with Russian pianist Oksana Grigorieva. Mel’s divorce from Robyn was finalized on Dec. 23, 2011. It was reported that the settlement with his ex-wife was the highest in Hollywood at over $400 million. While the divorce from his first marriage was in the works, Mel and Oksana had a daughter, Lucia, born in 2009. In April 2010, Mel and Oksana had split. Once they went their separate ways, Oksana claimed she had a domestic violence incident with Mel, which sparked an investigation with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. During that controversy, his estranged ex-wife had to file a court document stating she never endured any violence from her ex-husband during their time together. In Aug. 2011, Mel eventually settled with Oksana and she was awarded $750,000, joint legal custody and a house in Sherman Oaks, Calif. until their daughter Lucia turns 18. In 2015, it is being reported that Mel got his 24-year-old girlfriend, Rosalind Ross, pregnant with his ninth child.
