Lupita Nyong’o (born Lupita Amondi Nyong’o in Mexico City, Mexico on March 1, 1983) is a Mexican-Kenyan actress and director. Her first feature film role was as Patsey in the 2013 film 12 Years a Slave. She won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the film, making her the first Kenyan and first Mexican actress to win an Oscar. Lupita has also been named People‘s Most Beautiful and Glamour‘s Woman of the Year.
Best Known For:
Lupita Nyong’o is best known for starring in 12 Years a Slave (2013), Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015), Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017), and Black Panther (2018). She will star in Us and Star Wars: Episode IX in 2019.
Personal Life:
Lupita was born in Mexico, but raised in Kenya, Africa. She is fluent in multiple languages, including Luo, English, Spanish, and Swahili. She studied film and theater at Hampshire College in the United States, and holds a Bachelor’s degree. Lupita got her start in the film industry by becoming a production assistant on the set of Hollywood films. She went to the Yale School of Drama to complete a master’s degree in acting, and graduated in 2012.
