Karl-Anthony Towns

Karl-Anthony Towns (born Karl-Anthony Towns Jr. on November 15, 1995 in Piscataway, New Jersey) is a Dominican-American professional basketball player. Karl-Anthony was born and raised in New Jersey, attending St. Joseph High School. He led the school’s basketball team to a state championship in 2012, earning the top position in ESPN’s 25 National Ranking of High School Players. Karl-Anthony helped the team three-peat as state champs. In 2013, Karl-Anthony recorded a quadruple-double with 16 points, 17 rebounds, 11 blocks and 11 assists. He was a star recruit when he enrolled in the University of Kentucky Wildcats men’s basketball program. He only spent one year at Kentucky before he declared himself eligible for the 2015 NBA Draft. The Minnesota Timberwolves drafted him as the Overall No. 1 pick. Karl-Anthony helped his team to their first 2-0 start (with wins on the road) in history. Karl-Anthony became the youngest player to have 30 points and 10 games since Kevin Durant’s 2008 performance. He scored 741 rebounds in his first season, passing Kevin Love’s record for the Wolves. After playing all 82 games with the Timberwolves, Karl-Anthony finished out the season averaging 18.3 points and 10.5 rebounds per game. This outstanding debut unanimously earned him the 2016 NBA Rookie of the Year award.

Personal Life:
Karl-Anthony’s mother, Jacqueline Cruz, is Dominican. Though her, he is able to play for the Dominican Republic’s national basketball team. At 16-years-old, he was picked to play for the country’s 2012 Olympic team, but they failed to qualify. His father played basketball for Monmouth University and coached for Piscataway Technical High School.
