Helen Maroulis (born in Rockville, Maryland on September 19, 1991) is an American Freestyle wrestler, who made history as the first-ever Olympic Champion in women’s wrestling. She took home the gold in the women’s freestyle at the 2016 Rio Olympics. She was a gold medalist at the 2015 World Wrestling Championships in Las Vegas, and at the 2011 Pan American Games in Mexico. She was named one of eight international wrestling leaders for the United World Wrestling Super 8 women’s wrestling campaign, according to TeamUSA.org.
