Hailee Steinfeld (born December 11, 1996 in Tarzana, California) is an American actress and model. Hailee wanted to become an actress at age eight, after seeing her older cousin, True O’Brien, appear in television commercials. During her early career, she appeared in several short films to gain experience, including the award-winning short, She’s a Fox. Her breakout role came in 2010, when she was cast in the Mattie Ross role in the remake of True Grit, staring Jeff Bridges. Her performance netter her a nomination for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress, losing to actress Melissa Leo. She followed up her True Grit success with roles in a 2013 film adaptation of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet and in movies Begin Again, Ender’s Game and Barely Lethal. In 2015, Hailee joined the cast of Pitch Perfect 2.

Hailee was a cheerleader for eight years. Hailee was home-schooled since 2008. Hailee’s older brother, Griffin Steinfeld, is a professional NASCAR driver. She is a close friend with Sarah Hyland, Sophie Turner, and Taylor Swift. Hailee starred in the 2015 video of Taylor’s song, “Bad Blood.”
