Franca Sozzani

Bio:
Franca Sozzani (born January 20, 1950 in Mantua, Italy) was an Italian journalist and the editor-in-chief of Vogue Italia from 1988 to 2016. She first landed a job at Vogue Bambini as an “assistant to the assistant to the assistant,” she once said. In 1980, France became the EIC of Lei, aimed at young women, and Per Lui, the male equivalent in 1982. She transformed both titles into international publications. She is known for her editorials’ strong imagery and photography. In 1988, Franca was appointed to the role of Editor n Chief at Italian Vogue. Franca died at the age of 66 on December 22, 2016 after suffering from a year-long illness.

Personal Life:
Franca has one son, Francesco Corrozzini, born in 1982, who is a photographer and director. Throughout her career she was extraordinarily philanthropic and progressive on the international stage. She was a founding member of CHILD PRIORITY, a Conde Nast non-profit organization offering work opportunities for underprivileged, artistically gifted children. She produced “The Black Issue,” an issue of Vogue featuring models of different races. She was also a champion for the cure for AIDS. In 2012, Franca became a UN Goodwill ambassador and in 2016, she received the Swarovski Award for Positive Change.
