Bio:
David Ortiz (born David Américo Ortiz Arias in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic on November 18, 1975) is a designated hitter for the Boston Red Sox. He began his Major League Baseball career in 1997, playing for the Minnesota Twins until 2002. In January 2003, he signed on with the Boston Red Sox. He holds their record for single-season home runs with 54. He was also given “the greatest clutch-hitter in the history of the Boston Red Sox” plaque in 2005. In Nov. 2015, he announced he would retire from baseball at the end of the 2016 season.

Personal Life:
In January 2002, David Ortiz’s mother Angela Rosa Arias was killed in a car accident. Every time he hits a home run, he points to the sky in her honor. He is married to Tiffany Ortiz, and they have three children together.
