David Attenborough

Bio:
David Attenborough (born David Frederick Attenborough on May 8, 1926 in Isleworth London, England) is an English broadcaster and naturalist. David grew up in the College House on the campus of University College of Leicester. His father was the principal of the school. David spent his childhood collecting fossils, stones and natural specimens. After hearing a lecture on conservation by Grey Owl (aka Archibald Belaney) David committed his life to naturalism. David studied geology and zoology at Clare College, Cambridge. After a brief stint in the Royal Navy, he took a position editing children’s science textbooks. Afterward, he applied for a job as a radio talk producer with the BBC. In 1952, he joined the BBC fledgling television service. Though he worked on numerous programs, even becoming a controller of BBC Two, David’s big break came in the 1970s, when he created the Life on Earth documentary television series. He followed it up with The Living Planet, The Trials of Life, Life in the Freezer and more. David’s voice has become a well-known narrator of nature documentaries.

Personal Life:
David married Jane Oriel in 1950. They had two children together until her passing in 1997. David’s older brother was actor Richard Attenborough, best known as John Hammond in Jurassic Park. David has received multiple honors and titles. He has had multiple species of plant and animal, both living and extinct, named after him.
