Carly Fiorina

Carly Fiorina (born Cara Carleton Sneed on September 6, 1954 in Austin, Texas) is an American politician and former business executive. Fiorina attended Channing School in London before finishing her high school degree in North Carolina. She graduated from Stanford University in 1976 with a degree in philosophy and medieval history. She enrolled in UCLA School of Law but dropped after one semester. She ultimately received her MBA in marketing from University of Maryland in 1980. That year, she joined AT&T as a management trainee before she rose to a senior vice president role in the company. In 1998, Fortune magazine named her “the most powerful woman in business.” In 1999, Carly was named CEO of Hewlett-Packard, the first woman to lead a Fortune 20 company. She would stay with the company until 2005, when she was asked to resign. She continued to work in the private sector until 2008. During that year, Carly worked on Senator John McCain’s presidential campaign. She was appointed the fundraising chair for the Republican National Committee’s “Victory” initiative and addressed the 2008 Republican National Convention. In 2009, she announced her candidacy in the 2010 Senate election to unseat California Senator Barbara Boxer. Though Carly was unsuccessful, her political profile was significantly raised . On May 4, 2015, Carly announced her candidacy for the 2016 Presidential Election, the first woman Republican to throw her hat in the ring.

Personal Life:
Carly married Todd Bartlem, a Stanford classmate, in 1977. They divorced in 1984. In 1985, Carly married AT&T executive Frank Fiorina. She is the stepmother to Frank’s two daughters from his previous marriage. In 2009, Carly was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent a double mastectomy and chemotherapy, before recovering from the disease.
