Betty White (born Betty Marion White in Oak Park, Illinois on January 17, 1922) Is a beloved actress, author, producer, radio host and television personality who has a career spanning over 70 years and who has won awards at the Emmy’s, Screen Actors Guild Awards, Teen Choice Awards and People’s Choice Awards for her contributions to the entertainment industry.
Best Known For:
Betty White is best known for her role as Sue Ann Nivens on The Mary Tyler Moore Show from 1973-1977 and for playing Rose Nylund on the beloved series, The Golden Girls from 1985-1992. Betty is credited with being the first female to produce a sitcom and was awarded the title of Mayor of Hollywood in 1955. Over her 70+ career, Betty has been a part of several successful shows including The Betty White Show, The Golden Palace, Hot In Cleveland and Betty White’s Off Their Rockers as well as having been a staple in several game shows in the 70s and 80s including, Pyramid and Match Game. Aside from her work on-screen, Betty is known for her love of animals and is a part of several organizations including, the Los Angeles Zoo Commission, the Morris Animal Foundation, African Wildlife Foundation.
Personal Life:
Betty White was born in Oak Park, Illinois to Christine Tess and Horace Logan White. During the great depression, the family moved to Los Angeles where Betty discovered her love of acting. Betty has had three marriages. Her first in 1945 to Dick Barker who was an Army pilot. Then two years late in 1947 she married Hollywood agent Lane Allen before getting a divorce in 1949. In 1963 Betty wed Password host Allen Ludden after meeting on the set of the show in 1961. Unfortunately, in 1981 Allen passed away from stomach cancer. When asked why she hasn’t re-married Betty famously told Larry King, “Once you’ve had the best, who needs the rest?” Betty has won a total of six Emmy Awards for her incredible work in television as well as three American Comedy Awards as well as a Grammy Award for her book! She was inducted into the Television Hall of Fame in 1995 and was granted a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame next to Allen. Betty is one of the most beloved actresses in America and in 2011 was voted to be the most trustworthy star.
