America Ferrera (born America Georgine Ferrera on April 18, 1984 in Los Angeles, California) is an American actress. America grew up in the Woodland Hills of Los Angeles and began acting at an early age. At 7, she landed a role in a school production of Hamlet and, at 10, the role of the Artful Dodger in Oliver!. She continued to act in school plays in Los Angeles, before attending University of Southern California on a presidential scholarship. She would graduate in 2013 with a double major in theater and international relations. In 2002, America appeared in the Disney Channel Original movie, Gotta Kick It Up! Her feature debut movie came in Real Women Have Curves. She starred in 2005’s The Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants and its sequel. In 2006, when she landed the lead role in Ugly Betty, the American adaptation of the Colombian telenovela, Yo soy Betty, la fea. She won the 2007 Golden Globe for Best Performance By An Actress in a Comedy television series, as well as the Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Female Actor in a Comedy. Ugly Betty ended in 2010, the same year she voices Astrid in How To Train Your Dragon. After appearing in movies It’s A Disaster and End of Watch, America returned to television in 2015. She joined the cast of the NBC sitcom, Superstore.

America is politically active, supporting President Barack Obama and working tog et Latinos in the United States involved in the political process. America’s parents emigrated from Honduras in the mid-1970s. She met Ryan Piers Williams while at USC. They were engaged in 2010, and were married in 2011.
