Bio:
Alek Skarlatos (born in 1993 in Roseburg, Oregon) is an American Army National Guardsman. He was traveling from Amsterdam to Paris on Aug. 21, 2015, when he and two friends took down a 25-year-old Moroccan man, Ayoub El-Kahzzani, who was armed with an assault rifle, box cutter and rounds of ammunition. Alek received international attention for his role in preventing the attack. Just days after becoming an American hero, Alek became a contestant on Season 21 of Dancing With the Stars, for which he’s partnered with Lindsay Arnold.
Best Known For:
Alek is best known for stopping a terrorist attack on a train to Paris.
Personal Life:
Alek had been serving in the Oregon Army National Guard for three years at the time of the attack, and had been stationed in Afghanistan for nine months.
