Two months after Sandra Lee officially sold the Westchester County home that she once shared with her ex-partner, Andrew Cuomo, she headed to California to start her new life. On Dec. 15, Sandra finished moving out of ‘Lily Pond,’ and hopped on a plane toward her new beachfront home in Malibu. However, the journey was very emotional for the celebrity chef, who admitted to breaking down in tears on the flight to California.
“Watched Little Women on the flight,” Sandra wrote. “Decided I am Jo! Although Jo would have never cried all the way home. I think I have just been stuffing it in for so long that I am done. It’s all been too much — the last six years have just been too much. Please God let 2021 be good for us all.” After the difficult journey, Sandra revealed that she crawled into bed with “some Campbell’s chicken noodle soup and saltines,” which she found to be the “ultimate comfort meal when tired and overwhelmed.”
Indeed, the last six years have been quite difficult for the 54-year-old. In 2015, she announced that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer. She underwent a lumpectomy and double mastectomy. Since mid-2016, Sandra has been cancer-free. However, her personal life took a blow in 2019, when she split from NY Gov. Cuomo after 14 years together (they started dating in 2005).
Even though Sandra has a new home in California now, she still has roots in New York, and said in another Instagram post that she “will not be giving up” her NYC apartment “any time soon.” She also detailed the grueling move out of the Westchester estate. “[It] took 10 days and that’s 9-10 hours of hard moving and packing each day,” Sandra explained. “It gave me solace to do it alone with movers and helpers. I am exhausted.”
Earlier in the day, Sandra posted another message about Lily Pond, and said that she “cried and cried” while taking one last walk around the grounds. “Today will be one of the saddest days of my life,” the Food Network star admitted. “Today is the day that I do the final move out from Lily Pond. I love that house and I have a personal relationship with every single room of that home. I hope the new owners take care of it as well as I did and I will love it forever.” She completed the post with the hashtag, “The house that built me.”
