Tristan Thompson, 29, is not letting a big move make big changes in his relationship with Khloe Kardashian, 36, which is back on the mend. While he’s leaving behind the mother of his daughter True Thompson, 2, in California to pursue a $19 million deal with the Boston Celtics in Massachusetts, “Tristan is not going to let his zip code determine his relationship with Khloe,” a Tristan source EXCLUSIVELY tells HollywoodLife.
“He’s adamant that he will continue to fight for her and he will continue to spend all the time he possibly can with her and True,” our source explains. “He’s excited about the idea of playing again, but that doesn’t mean it will be easy to be away from Khloe and True. Having all this time together has been such a blessing, he will definitely miss them. But he’s vowed not to let the distance change anything.”
Tristan hasn’t returned to the court since the NBA suspended the 2019-2020 season in March, due to the coronavirus pandemic (his old team, the Cleveland Cavaliers, was also not selected to return when the season resumed in July). This has given him months to spend quality time with Khloe and True, which Tristan doesn’t want to end. “Tristan wants to be near Khloe and wants to be near True, he really wants to make it work,” a second source EXCLUSIVELY tells HollywoodLife.
However, Tristan is feeling optimistic about moving to Boston. “He also knows that he was able to make it work in Cleveland. Now choosing Boston to play for the next few years, he is looking to win another championship, he is also looking to get paid well and since this is his job that won’t last forever, he needs to do what he needs to do to secure his future which will in turn secure a future for True and hopefully Khloe,” our second source continues.
As for where Tristan stands with Khloe, our second source tells us that “he would love nothing more than to have Khloe in his life forever both romantically and as a co-parent.” But Tristan is ready for any outcome. “If a relationship doesn’t end up being the situation,” then “he must be able to support his dreams as well,” this source explains, who adds, “Choosing Boston was a business decision but also a decision for the quality of life that Tristan wants in his future with or without Khloe by his side. He ultimately had to do what was best for him.”
Although Tristan will be far from Khloe, her siblings Kim Kardashian and Rob Kardashian took to social media to celebrate after Tristan’s new deal with the Boston Celtics was announced on Nov. 21 by his agent! HollywoodLife also learned more details on Khloe’s personal reaction, which you can read more about here. News of Tristan’s career move also comes after he revealed that he wishes to get back together with Khloe on the Nov. 12 episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians.
