2. He gained international attention for his role in Y tu Mama Tambien.
Diego’s name first started making headlines in 2001, after he starred in the critically acclaimed film Y tu Mama Tambien, a drama film which chronicles the lives of two wealthy teenagers and an older woman who seduces them on a road trip. Diego won a MTV Movie award for his performance as Carlos in the film.
3. Diego cofounded a nonprofit organization that funds documentaries.
The actor and his best friend and fellow actor Gael Garcia Bernal, 38, cofounded the nonprofit Ambulante A.C. in 2008. The organization reportedly aims to promote the filming and production of documentaries. Ambulante also hosts annual festivals in Mexico and the United States that invite local and international artists to show off their work.
4. He once starred in a Katy Perry music video.
OMG! Diego isn’t only a TV and movie star; he was also featured in Katy Perry’s, 33, 2010 music video for “The One That Got Away.” He starred as Katy’s artistic love interest who ultimately met an untimely death at the video’s end. SO cool!
5. Diego plays Captain Cassian Andor in the new Star Wars epic.
Diego plays Captain Cassian Andor of the Rebel Alliance Intelligence in Rogue One. The officer works closely with Jyn Erso (Felicity) to steal the Death Star.
