‘The Vampire Diaries’ Recap: A Familiar Face Makes A Tragic Return

This week's 'Vampire Diaries' opened with the scene on Wickery Bridge, the day that Elena's parents died. Only this time, she wasn't saved -- Sybil had changed that memory so that Damon never had the chance to get to know her.

That wasn’t the only memory she changed; she also replaced Bonnie with herself in his mind, since he wasn’t able to kill her when he was ordered to. Sybil still didn’t really get the connection between Damon and Bonnie, so she went to the source: in the middle of their wedding planning, she made Caroline and Bonnie tell her what was going on. Cue the trending hashtag, “#BonniesChoice.”

She made Bonnie choose which one of the guys she loved should live: Enzo or Damon. The other would live a life of hell. She wouldn’t chose, but that didn’t really matter — she had willed the guys to fight each other until one of them was dead. Damon called Stefan to help, not knowing what he was helping with or how, and when he found out it was to kill Enzo, he obviously got in the middle, as did Caroline who tried saving Enzo for Bonnie’s sake.

Long story short, Bonnie showed up to beg Damon to not kill Enzo, but Sybil then also showed up and told Bonnie the only way he could stop was if she chose Enzo, so he did. So, would Damon be killed? Eh, Sybil didn’t like that idea, since he was the only one that would do what she wanted. So she gave them a choice; if Enzo would flip his switch, they could all live. So with a kiss goodbye, he did it. And Sybil still ordered Damon to kill Bonnie.

Luckily that fork thing Alaric and his intern have been looking into? It’s the devil’s pitchfork, apparently, ie. Sybil’s. So when he figured it out, Alaric showed up at the perfect moment to hit Damon with his car and the sound the pitchfork made caused Sybil to collapse long enough for everyone to lock him up; Damon still couldn’t be himself though; she was still in his head, so he drove off and waited until — wait for it — Tyler Lockwood showed up.

He had a gun ready, that he got from the armory, but duh that wasn’t going to stop Damon, especially with Sybil in his head telling him to find a way to make everyone to stop caring about him. And what better way to do that but to kill Tyler? So yes, the teeth and the eyes returned and he bit into Tyler’s neck.

One more thing — pretty sure Tyler was the only one who knew where Elena’s body was. Smart one, that little devil is. Won’t Damon get sick killing a wolf? So many questions!
