She received her journalism degree in 1995 at the University of Illinois. Starting off as a correspondent at CNN Newsource in Dec. 2000, Elaine worked her way up the corporate ladder, earning respect from her fellow media colleagues along the way. She now works as a digital news anchor and daytime anchor at CBSN, the 24-hour livestream channel.
2.) She will be the FIRST ever Asian-American to moderate a national debate.
Elaine will likely become a household name overnight on Oct. 4, with tens of millions of Americans watching the vice presidential debate which she will be moderating. She’ll be posing the tough questions to Republican Governor Mike Pence and Democratic Senator Tim Kaine at Longwood University in Farmville, Virginia.

3.) The Emmy award-winning journalist is the YOUNGEST person to moderate in 28 years.
Wow. Elaine, 42, will be the youngest person to moderate a national debate, in addition to being the first moderator from a digital news network. She’s got plenty of experience to back her up. Not only has she served as the anchor for “CBS Weekend News,” but the Chicago-native also spent 10 years covering politics for CNN Newsouce and CNN.
4.) Her colleagues all praise her incredible work ethics.
The CBS News chief White House correspondent, Major Garrett, told CNNMoney. “Elaine is one of the best story-tellers and journalists I have ever worked with.” He continued, “Elaine’s CBSN work brought her to the debate commission’s attention and deservedly so. She has earned this moment in the spotlight but does not see it as moment for her — or even CBS — but a moment for the candidates and the country.” Get it, girl!
5.) Elaine is utilizing one of Lester Holt’s moderating techniques.
Ahead of the big debate, she decided to take a break from using her usually active Twitter account, seeming to follow the precedent set by Lester Holt. The NBC News anchor avoided his social media site ahead of moderating the presidential debate, so Elaine is likely trying to do the same in order to stay focused!
