“Right now, what I love about them is that they are adult best friends of the opposite sex that work together,” Josh told HollywoodLife.com at PaleyFest. “I think that the easy place to go is to make them lovers, and I think we’re going to play it out in real time. I think you can’t deny the chemistry.”

Josh revealed that Piper Perabo and Daniel Sunjata’s first scene together was the elevator scene, which was full of sexual tension. “I hope that tension will stay palpable, and we’ll absolutely play into it,” he continued. “But in real life, if you had a co-worker, and your career depended on that co-worker and you were in love with that co-worker, you might not want to step over the line because it could hurt your job.”
Jake and Julia are the center of the show, and they’re currently dealing with the Oscar Keaton case. Oscar’s wife, Sarah, who also happens to be Jake’s ex, was murdered in the premiere, and the search is on for her killer. But don’t think this is going to be a season-long mystery.
“I wanted to write a show that could reflect real time news. So we discover who the killer is quite quickly. There are no super long arcs, other than the characters developing. You will quickly be rewarded on who stabbed Sarah. It’s not drawn out. And then we bring in another mystery. Then every episode also has its own self-contained story. Just like a news cycle.”
We can’t wait to see what’s next. We’re already shipping Jake and Julia. Notorious airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET on ABC.
