Tragedy struck Norm MacDonald’s home while he was away on a trip with his son out of the country. The comedian’s son’s pal, Michael Huettner, 23, was watching his house during the vacation, and his parents tragically found him dead inside, according to TMZ.
The site reports that the 23-year-old’s body was allegedly surrounded by pills and pill bottles, so an overdose is the first cause of death authorities are looking into. Many of the pill bottles were prescribed to Norm, TMZ claims, and Michael’s family reportedly told police that he’s had trouble with oxycodone in the past.

As of now, Michael’s cause of death has not been confirmed, and it’s still unknown which, if any, of the pills he took. The case has been handed over to the L.A. County Coroner’s Office, where an autopsy and toxicology test will be completed.
It’s unclear if Norm and his son have returned home in the wake of this tragedy, although the site reports that they are complying with the investigation. Michael’s family has allegedly contacted federal authorities to investigate the drugs reportedly found at the scene.
The 52-year-old comedian has yet to publicly release a statement on what happened at his home, but we can imagine he’s incredibly devastated, especially if it’s true that some of the pills involved were his. Michael had been friends with Norm’s son, Dylan, since high school, so he’s clearly been close with the family for quite some time.
