1. She’s a cancer survivor

Calysta emotionally admitted during her audition that she is a survivor of Stage 3 Ovarian cancer. This form of the disease is extremely rare in someone so young, and it was clear from her few moments on stage that she’s a tough chick and total fighter.

2. She goes by a nickname

When Calysta introduced herself to the judges, she did it as “Caly,” rather than her full name Calysta.

3. She’s a small-town girl

Calysta came to the big AGT stage from Grand Rapids, Ohio, a town that’s populated by less than 1,000 people! Something tells me that after her run on this show, she’ll get to see a lot more of the world…

“I came here today to show people that, no matter what you’ve gone through, to keep facing your dreams,” Caly admitted before her audition. And the fact that she sang the always-inspiring “Fight Song” just proved that she’s really out there to send an important message!
