Sting was never able to fully recover after hurting his neck during his fight against Seth Rollins. Doctors have formally diagnosed him with cervical spinal stenosis, a condition that impacts the nerves and can cause extreme pain and discomfort, according to TMZ. His doctors have told him it’s too dangerous for him to continue fighting.

The wrestler may make his official announcement next month at the WWE Hall of Fame ceremony in Texas. He is set to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. However, Sting’s career with the WWE may not be completely over. He’s reportedly open to a non-physical role with the WWE, but an offer has not been made yet.

Sting made a surprise return to WWE’s Monday Night Raw in Aug. 2015 and set up a match between Seth at the Night of Champions for the WWE World Heavyweight Title. At the fight, Sting was sent to the hospital for his neck injury, but he was so thankful for getting the chance to fight Seth.

Sting revealed what Seth said to him before he was taken to the hospital. “He poked his head in the ambulance and said, ‘Man, I’m so sorry. I don’t know what happened,'” he told WWE.com. “I said, ‘Seth, don’t worry about it. It’s not your fault.’ And he, for 15 minutes, he said, ‘I just wanted to tell you what an honor it was, what a pleasure. I can’t believe I had a chance to get in the ring with you and work with you. I was you for Halloween when I was a kid.’ He was on and on about it, but man, this young guy, he doesn’t have any idea how much I appreciate being able to work with him.”
