One Direction’s ‘Long Way Down’ – About Louis Tomlinson & Eleanor Calder Sad Split?

These lyrics are heartbreaking! Louis Tomlinson co-wrote 'Long Way Down,' which sounds like a sad breakup song on One Direction's new album 'Made In The A.M.' -- is the tune inspired by Louis' failed relationship with longtime girlfriend Eleanor Calder? "Went down in the flames," is one of the first lines in One Direction's new song "Long Way Down," which was co-written by Louis Tomlinson, 23. Louis and his girlfriend of 4 years, Eleanor Calder, 23, split earlier this year and the lyrics of this song sound like the story of a failed relationship. "We had it all, yeah. And we walked away" -- see the rest of the lyrics and let us know what YOU think!

According to a fan on Tumblr who was at a 1D listening party, Liam said this song is “about the band and how they are at the top and the break will be them taking it down some.” That definitely makes sense, HOWEVER, knowing Louis co-wrote the song makes us wonder if it has a double meaning. It definitely sounds like it could have been inspired by his split from Eleanor. Here are the lyrics:

We made a fire
Went down in the flames
We sailed the ocean
And drowned in the waves
Built a cathedral
But we never prayed
We had it all, yeah
And we walked away

Point of no return and now
It’s just too late to turn around
I try to forgive you
But I struggle cause I don’t know how
We built it up so high and now I’m fallin’
It’s a long way down
It’s a long way down, from here

We had a mountain
But took it for granted
We had a spaceship
But we couldn’t land it
We found an island
But we got stranded
We had it all
Who could’ve planned it?

Point of no return and now
It’s just too late to turn around
I try to forgive you
But I’m struggling cause I don’t know how
We built it up so high and now I’m fallin’
It’s a long way down, from here
Such a long way down
It’s a long way down
It’s a long way down
Such a long way down
It’s a long way down
It’s a long way down
