The 2010 Pulitzer Prize finalist, that’s right Pulitzer Prize finalist tackles everything from boyhood dreams to racism in a thrillingly spectacular show that only the world of professional wrestling can achieve.
Desmin Borges, known as Mace, serves as the play’s narrator. He is a unbelievable talent that should be seen to be believed. The character of Mace that Desmin plays is a life long fan of professional wrestling who becomes an incredibly skilled grappler who makes less skilled wrestlers look great, one being the main character and champion of the world Chad Deity, who can be best described as a lady loving, money-throwing monster of a man played to hilarious perfection by Terence Archie.
Mace shows us the good bad and the ugly of the world and profession he has chosen adding a wrinkle to what his boss Everett K. Olson (Steve Valentine), EKO for short would deem as having no problems at all. EKO is the owner of THE Wrestling and all his decisions are the law, no matter how awful the outcome can be and will be. The over the top feel of things is needed to get to the overall message of the play, that no matter how right you might be in life, sometimes life isn’t fair.
There is so much to like about Chad Deity, but to talk about certain things would ruin the magic that the audience should just experience. The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity plays at the wonderful Geffen Playhouse in LA and when you go, because lets face it, you have to go! Make sure you are ready to cheer and boo as the show is interactive to the audience, there is no room to sit in your seats and pout. Its all about having fun!
