Is the young career YNW Melly coming to a close? After gaining a massive amount of attention online, the SoundCloud rapper seemed like he was about to be the next big thing. After posting his music online when he was 15, Melly (real name Jamell Maurice Demons) collaborated with Lil B, John Wick and Kanye West. He even signed to Young Thug’s YSL Records label. However, Melly’s troubled past caught up with him. Melly was arrested in February 2019 and charged with two counts of first-degree murder stemming from an Oct. 2018 shooting in which two of his friends — Anthony “YNW Sakchaser” Williams and Christopher “YNW Juvy” Thomas Jr. – were gunned down. Authorities allege that Melly and his friend, Cortlen “YNW Bortlen” Henry, shot Williams and Thomas and made it appear as if they were killed in a drive-by shooting. Prosecutors are reportedly seeking the death penalty in the case.
