Sarah Palin and her husband at the time, Todd Palin, pose together on the red carpet for Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in the World Gala on May 4, 2010.
Todd knew Sarah before she became one of the most iconic Vice President candidates in American history. They attended Wasilla High School in Alaska, and both graduated in 1982. However, they wouldn’t elope until 1988! Despite the quickie wedding, they stayed together for 31 years and welcomed five children together: Bristol, Track, Willow, Piper and Trig. You may know Bristol from her short stint on ‘Teen Mom OG.’
Sarah and Todd were introduced to the limelight after Sarah was elected governor of Alaska in 2006, a job she served until 2009. During that tenure, Todd was affectionately known as the ‘First Dude’ of Alaska. He had worked as a production supervisor for the BP oil company prior to Sarah’s new gig, and to avoid potential conflicts of interest, he later stepped down to production operator (and resigned altogether in 2009). During that time, Sarah also ran for vice president under Republican nominee John McCain in the 2008 presidential election.
Their longtime marriage came to an end when Todd filed for divorce from Sarah in Sept. 2019, due to ‘incompatibility of temperament between the parties such that they find it impossible to live together as husband and wife,’ according to his court documents.
