They would incorporate this into their act when each would start on one side of a building, meet in the middle of the highwire, cross over and complete the walk to the other side. The siblings are part of the famed Wallenda aerialist family, as their great grandfather Karl Wallenda started the Flying Wallendas troupe in the 1920s. The siblings grew up among their parent’s circus and continued the family’s legacy of tightrope work. In 2012, Nik became the first person ever to walk across Niagara Falls on a tightrope, something that was broadcast live around the world. The following year he walked across a 1,500 foot gorge in the Grand Canyon, which was also televised live to a worldwide audience. In 2017, Lijana suffered a scary 30 foot tightrope fall that landed her in a coma. She’s making her comeback on June 23, 2019 on ABC’s ‘Highwire Live’ where she and Nik wlll start from opposing builgings in Times Square, meet up in the middle and continue across to the other side. They will be wearing safety harnesses to ensure no tragedies occur on live TV.
