There’s one thing that can be said about the short-lived engagement between Mariah Carey and billionaire James Packer: it happened. The couple first met in 2014 at a movie premiere, and initially, things were going well. A romance bloomed, and they publicly confirmed the relationship with some PDA in the summer of 2015. Mariah seemed happy and the romance received the blessing of her ex, Nick Cannon. At the start of 2016, James put a ring on it, proposing to Mariah in her hometown of New York City. The ring – a 35 carat Wilfredo Rosado-designed sparkler, worth an estimated $10 million – could be seen from space, and it seemed like Mariah was headed back to the alter for the third time. However, by the September of that year, things had gone sour. A fight in Mykonos led to the end of the engagement – and the relationship. By October, James was in her rearview and she didn’t look back. She didn’t include him in her 2020 memoir, and said in an interview that their relationship never got “physical.”
